Information about
Rice is the staple food of more than half of the world's population (Fang et al., 2018). Its annual consumption is estimated at an average of 54.4 kg per capita (FAO, 2016). In West Africa, it has been cultivated and consumed for thousands of years (Touré et al., 2009). In this region, rice has become the main source of calories and its consumption is expected to increase by 2027 (OECD-FAO, 2018). In order to support the efforts of political leaders and all rice stakeholders, AQUAGREN AFRICA has developed a mobile application for the sale of rice; it is called Rice-Seller.
Rice-Seller is the first ever application dedicated to promote the local consumption of rice produced in Africa by Africans. It is the first specialized platform in the sector that guarantees better visibility for rice stakeholders in African countries.
Through Rice-Seller, rice actors are guaranteed easier access to the market and better visibility with an enriched network of customers. They thus avoid problems related to grain quality due to long storage time. They will also benefit from easier access to new and improved production and conservation technologies and techniques, thanks to the tutorials on our Youtube channel, which they can easily access via the application. Through its effectiveness, Rice-Seller will help wherever it is adopted to more easily achieve sustainable development goals related to poverty, food security and youth employment.
